The Mayor
BIOGRAPHY OF THE MAYOR OF BONTHE MUNICIPALITY COUNCIL
Mohamed Mahmoud Robinson is a Sierra Leonean. born at the Bonthe Government
Hospital, Bonthe Town, on the 14th of May, 1973. He is the fourth born to Mr Edward Robinson and Mrs Isata Kona Robinson of blessed memory. He grew up in Bonthe as a small boy and attended the United Methodist Church [UMC] Primary School from 1981-1987, where he sat to the selective entrance examination. Upon completing class seven, he entered the Bonthe Secondary School after successfully passing the examination that same year. He sat for the General Certificate of Education/Ordinary Level [GCE O’Level] examination in 1981 upon attaining the fifth form. In the 1993/1994 academic year, he took up a teaching appointment at the Bonthe Amalgamated primary school in Bonthe, and he was assigned to class six. During his tenure in that school, the pupils prepared for the National Primary School Examination [NPSE] and performed extremely well, but he had to leave the school and joined the Minnie Mull Primary School for Girls due to insistent requests from his family in the 1994-1995 academic year. There, he was again assigned to class six. The excellent performance of the pupils in the NPSE that year induced an increase in the school population. He also served as staff secretary and games and sports committee chairman in the school.
He left the Minnie Mull Primary School for girls and entered the then Bo Teachers College as a student to pursue a Higher Teacher’s Certificate [HTC] course in the 1999-2000 academic year and completed the course in 2002. In 2002, he took up a teaching appointment as a teacher with the United Brethren in Christ [UBC] Jusu Memorial Primary School in Bo. He was again assigned to the sixth class. He also served as a staff secretary, supervised school records and was a liaison between the school and other organisations. Due to his performance in that school, he was upgraded to the level of a senior teacher. He developed a passion for teaching, and he wanted to teach at a higher school, so in 2007, he entered the Njala University Bo campus on study leave to pursue a bachelor’s degree in education administration and management with an agricultural science option. Upon successful completion of the course in 2010, he returned to the school and served for ten years before his final departure for Bonthe in 2013. At Bonthe Secondary School, he was appointed as acting principal in the 2013-2014 academic year. Upon assuming the position as acting principal, he lobbied with some of the past students of the school, who gave their fullest support to revamp the school. He worked assiduously to transform the school in terms of teachers’ and students’ punctuality and other disciplines. He also lobbied with the government to recruit and replace teachers, which was also successful. Seeing the way he handled the school affairs in Bonthe in terms of development, a popular request was made to him by the Bonthe community in 2018 to contest for the position of councillor in the Bonthe municipal council, which he accepted. He went into the contest and won the election with a high number of votes. Due to his performance at that election, he was appointed to serve as the deputy mayor of the council. He personally carried out community development projects during that time [2018–2023, much to the acclaim of his people]. In 2023, by another popular request from the community, he contested for the mayoral symbol and went through unopposed under the Sierra Leone people’s party [SLPP]. He won the Mayoral seat at the last general elections with majority votes for the Bonthe municipal council.
As mayor for the municipality, his manifesto to his people are as follows:
- Transparency and Accountability
- Youth and Women Empowerment
- Mutual Respect and Good Communication
- Improved Service Delivery and Local Economy.
He is happily married with two children.
