A Brief History of our City
Bonthe’s significance dates back to colonial times when it functioned as a major trading hub, particularly known for piassava and other agricultural products. Over the years, the city’s administrative structures have evolved to meet the challenging needs of its populace.
In the early 2000s, efforts were made to enhance local governance and service delivery. For instance, the Bonthe District Council held meetings focused on transparency and accountability, emphasizing decisions in the best interest of the people. These initiatives aimed to maximize service delivery through effective resource management and sustainable community development within the macroeconomic framework.
